Manufacturing Capability

Casting

Pump housings, volute casings and impeller bodies are among the more geometrically complex castings in industrial equipment manufacture — requiring accurate core setting, controlled solidification and consistent wall thickness to meet the hydraulic and pressure requirements of the finished pump. SMI’s casting capability covers grey iron, ductile iron, carbon steel, stainless steel and speciality alloys for corrosion-resistant applications.

Precision Machining

Cast pump components require precision machining of mating faces, bore dimensions, bearing seats and sealing surfaces to achieve correct assembly fit and hydraulic performance. SMI’s machining capability covers the full range of pump component features — flanged faces, impeller wear ring bores, shaft seal housings and bolt patterns — to the tolerances specified in the customer’s engineering drawing.

Corrosion-Resistant Materials

Pump applications in seawater service, offshore environments and chemical process industries impose material requirements beyond standard grey or ductile iron. SMI supplies pump components in duplex stainless steel, super duplex, Hastelloy-equivalent alloys and other corrosion-resistant specifications for customers operating in aggressive fluid environments. Material selection is confirmed at the enquiry stage based on the fluid handled, operating temperature and pressure, and customer material specification.

Application Areas

Industrial Process Pumps

Components Manufactured

Hydraulic Fittings and Connectors

Cast and precision machined hydraulic fittings — including flanged tube connectors, port adaptors and inline fittings — manufactured to SAE, ISO or customer-specified port standards. Bore dimensions, thread forms and sealing face geometry machined to the tolerances required for reliable high-pressure sealing in service. Materials typically include ductile iron, carbon steel and stainless steel depending on pressure rating and fluid compatibility requirements.

Cylinder End Components

Hydraulic cylinder end caps, gland housings, clevis ends and trunnion mounts — cast and machined components for hydraulic cylinder assemblies used in industrial machinery, mobile equipment and offshore applications. The majority of supply is cast and machined components for integration into the customer’s own valve assemblies. A smaller volume of complete custom valve assemblies is also produced where customers require a fully assembled and tested unit to their specification.

Materials span grey iron, ductile iron, carbon steel, stainless steel and brass — selected to the fluid handled, pressure rating, temperature and corrosion requirements of each application. Components and Assemblies Manufactured

Valve Body Castings

Cast valve bodies in grey iron, ductile iron, carbon steel and stainless steel — covering globe valves, gate valves, ball valves, butterfly valves and check valves in standard and custom configurations. Pressure-retaining wall thickness, bore dimensions, flange face machining and port geometry are produced to the customer’s engineering drawing and applicable pressure standard — ASME, EN, JIS or customer-specific.

Changeover and Directional Valve Bodies

Large-format changeover valve bodies and directional control valve castings — as shown in the gallery above — for industrial process and fluid power applications. Complex internal geometry, multiple port configurations and large flange faces require careful casting design and controlled machining to achieve the dimensional accuracy required for correct valve function. SMI’s casting and machining capability covers these more demanding geometries.

Duplex Valve Bodies

Duplex and multi-port valve body castings for applications requiring multiple flow paths in a single body — including duplex strainer bodies, duplex filter housings and multi-way valve bodies for marine, offshore and industrial process systems.

Hydraulic and Pneumatic Valve Blocks

Multi-port valve blocks and manifold bodies — cast and precision machined to the port layout, bore dimensions and pressure rating specified in the customer’s drawing. Both iron and brass valve blocks are shown in the gallery, covering industrial hydraulic and marine/fluid system applications respectively.

Pipe Elbows and Fittings

Cast pipe elbows, tees and reducers in grey iron, ductile iron and carbon steel — flanged or plain end configurations to customer drawing. Flange face machining and bore dimensions produced to ASME, EN or customer-specified standards.

Rotary Valve Casings

Large-format rotary valve body castings with dual flanged openings — for bulk material handling, industrial process and energy sector rotary valve applications. The complex geometry of rotary valve casings requires careful pattern design and controlled casting practice to achieve consistent wall thickness and accurate flange alignment.
