A532 Class II Casting Parts — High-Chromium White Iron Wear Castings for Mining and Heavy Industry

SMI supplies casting parts manufactured to ASTM A532 Class II specification — high-chromium white iron castings for wear-critical applications in mining, aggregate processing, cement production and heavy material handling. ASTM A532 Class II is a recognised international standard for abrasion-resistant cast irons, specifying high-chromium white iron compositions typically in the 15–25% chromium range, with hardness values that make it the material of choice for the most demanding wear environments in heavy industry.

SMI does not produce the A532 material itself — we manufacture precision castings to this specification, applying controlled casting practice, heat treatment and dimensional inspection to produce parts that meet the mechanical and geometric requirements of each application. Custom dimensions, configurations and surface treatments are available.


Material — ASTM A532 Class II High-Chromium White Iron

ASTM A532 is the standard specification for abrasion-resistant cast irons. Class II within this standard covers high-chromium white iron compositions, characterised by:

  • Chromium content typically in the 15–25% range — forming hard chromium carbides in the microstructure that provide the primary wear resistance mechanism
  • Very high hardness — typically 600–800 HV depending on composition and heat treatment
  • Excellent abrasion resistance under high-stress grinding and impact-abrasion conditions
  • Good corrosion resistance relative to other wear-resistant materials, relevant in wet processing environments
  • Suitable for heat treatment to optimise the balance of hardness and toughness for the specific application

The European equivalent designation is the DIN GX260Cr27 family — high-chromium cast irons with chromium content around 27% and hardness typically ≥500 HB. SMI has manufacturing experience with both ASTM and DIN specification high-chromium white iron castings, and can produce to customer-specified standards where required.


Applications

Crusher Wear Parts

High-chromium white iron is the standard material specification for wear-critical components in gyratory, cone and jaw crushers — including crusher liners, mantles, concaves and blow bars. The combination of high hardness and chromium carbide microstructure resists the abrasive wear generated by rock and ore crushing at high compressive loads.

Grinding Mill Liners

Ball mill and SAG mill liners in mining and cement operations are among the highest-wear components in mineral processing. A532 Class II castings provide the abrasion resistance required for extended liner service life in high-throughput grinding applications.

Material Handling Wear Parts

Slurry pump wet-end components — impellers, volute liners, throatbushes — operate in highly abrasive slurry environments where high-chromium white iron provides significantly longer service life than standard cast iron or carbon steel alternatives. Chute liners, deflector plates and impact wear surfaces in bulk material handling systems are further applications.

Heavy-Duty Industrial Components

Additional applications include roller press rolls and wear segments, excavator wear parts, and other high-load, high-impact components where the abrasion resistance of high-chromium white iron is the determining material selection criterion.

The application of Intelligent ladle slag scraper (skimming tools) in steel mills and aluminum mills.

The intelligent ladle slag scraper is mainly used as a key equipment for the pretreatment of molten iron such as desulfurization, dephosphorization and desilization in steelmaking/aluminum smelting plants in order to improve steel quality and increase steel varieties. The equipment can pick up the slag with good fluidity and non-flowing flow in the molten pool, ladle or molten iron tank, so as to improve the pretreatment and metallurgical efficiency of iron and molten iron.
The equipment has four degrees of freedom: the whole machine rotates, the lifting frame rises/descends, the telescopic arm expands and contracts forward and backward, and the swing frame tilts up and down. Flexible action, high slag removal efficiency, large slag removal power and penetrating force, stable operation and convenient operation. It is mainly composed of mechanical and electronic control, which can be operated manually on site or remotely through 5G communication technology. The equipment is installed with protective plates close to the ladle, which can reduce the damage of high temperature to the equipment, and is safe and reliable.

Η έξυπνη ξύστρα σκωρίας κουτάλας χρησιμοποιείται κυρίως ως βασικός εξοπλισμός για την προεπεξεργασία του λιωμένου σιδήρου, όπως η αποθείωση, η αποφωσφορίωση και η αποσιλωμάτωση σε εγκαταστάσεις τήξης χάλυβα / αλουμινίου, προκειμένου να βελτιωθεί η ποιότητα του χάλυβα και να αυξηθούν οι ποικιλίες χάλυβα. Ο εξοπλισμός μπορεί να πάρει τη σκωρία με καλή ρευστότητα και μη ρέουσα ροή στη δεξαμενή τετηγμένης πισίνας, κουτάλας ή τετηγμένου σιδήρου, έτσι ώστε να βελτιωθεί η προεπεξεργασία και η μεταλλουργική απόδοση του σιδήρου και του τετηγμένου σιδήρου.
Ο εξοπλισμός έχει τέσσερις βαθμούς ελευθερίας: ολόκληρο το μηχάνημα περιστρέφεται, το πλαίσιο ανύψωσης ανεβαίνει / κατεβαίνει, ο τηλεσκοπικός βραχίονας επεκτείνεται και συστέλλεται προς τα εμπρός και προς τα πίσω και το πλαίσιο ταλάντευσης γέρνει πάνω και κάτω. Ευέλικτη δράση, υψηλή απόδοση αφαίρεσης σκωρίας, μεγάλη ισχύς αφαίρεσης σκωρίας και δύναμη διείσδυσης, σταθερή λειτουργία και βολική λειτουργία. Αποτελείται κυρίως από μηχανικό και ηλεκτρονικό έλεγχο, ο οποίος μπορεί να λειτουργήσει χειροκίνητα επί τόπου ή εξ αποστάσεως μέσω τεχνολογίας επικοινωνίας 5G.
Ο εξοπλισμός είναι εγκατεστημένος με προστατευτικές πλάκες κοντά στην κουτάλα, οι οποίες μπορούν να μειώσουν τη ζημιά της υψηλής θερμοκρασίας στον εξοπλισμό και είναι ασφαλής και αξιόπιστος.
